Forum: audio Subject: bitrate of embedded media player

Just curious about whether the embedded flash player on audio release pages streams the audio at the uploaded file bitrate (say, 192, 256, or 320), or whether it streams downsampled bitrates that use less bandwidth?

Thanks for that. Is this documented officially somewhere on this site though? Some other forum posts seem to dispute it, like this one:

Maybe I didn't fully understand your reply. Did you mean that 64/22050 is the default *unless specified otherwise* by the poster? Meaning, the poster can have a higher bitrate stream for the flash player if they choose?

you can upload files with higher bitrate/sampling frequency and mark them as 64kbps when you edit metadata. as a result, they will be used for streaming. i guess you can upload your version of m3u file as well, but i didn't try that.
